Emily Travels: Chicago

Last month I did a stretch of not going home for 3 weeks- I flew out Monday for work, stayed in NYC that weekend, and then flew to Chicago the following weekend to meet up with my parents there! Everyday I am thankful for being able to live a lifestyle like this- it is truly amazing. I find that a lot of the people I’m surrounded by have been traveling for so long that they’ve lost some of the appreciation for it so no matter how overly excited I am to be somewhere, I don’t tone down the enthusiasm because that’s something I don’t want to lose. When my parents asked me if I wanted to join them in Chicago I pretty quickly said yes because when I think of Chicago I think of a massive skyline, walks by the beautiful river, and delicious food (gimme all the deep dish please). We had a great trip and we took a ton of photos.

Chicago was surprisingly humid when we went (middle of October) but was still really windy- I made the mistake of wearing a dress but brought leggings to put on part way through the day thank god. I went for a very comfy outfit but one that was still street chic. My favorite piece for layering clothing is a cropped sweater! It goes over dresses perfectly without making your outfit look chunky (I also have this sweater in black and wear both constantly). Also if you can’t tell by basically all of my photos on Instagram (linked here), I’ve been obsessed with chokers. I love that these are making a comeback from the 90’s- it makes all of outfits feel cooler and edgier!img_0251img_3695I’ve always been a fan of a classic red lip and how it makes you look a little bit extra dressed up. I recently received the Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro Lip Gloss in the shade 400 and really like how thick and pigmented this line is! However; I would recommend blotting your lips after applying the product because these do have a tendency to bleed (I’ll probably be sticking to my L’Oreal lip stain to be honest).

Here are places we explored around the city!img_3618

Dollop Coffee Co– I direct messaged one of my favorite male bloggers, John Thompson III, who lives in Chicago and asked for some coffee recommendations! This was a cute place with a great mocha and coffee!fullsizerender-2

Navy Pier– This may be a touristy spot but it still has awesome views of the city! Definitely recommend coming here to see the whole skyline. All of my photos above by the water are here.img_3730

Riva Restaurant on Navy Pier– My mom and I went here for lunch and loved it! The seafood combo was delicious and the staff and view were great!img_3660

Grant Park– Everyone tells you what to see in Chicago is Millenium Park (because of The Bean) but what people don’t tell you is that Grant Park is amazing. It makes you feel like you’re surrounded by 270 deg of skyscrapers. The Buckingham Fountain is in this park and is the biggest fountain I’ve ever seen- so beautiful! (It’s shown in my pictures above).img_3714

Chicago Riverwalk– so beautiful day or night!img_3625

Labriola– This isn’t one of those crazy well known/ line out the door deep dish places but I still really liked it! The pizza was a tad salty but the toasted cheese on the crust was amazing and so were all the toppings.img_3670

Definitely recommend going to Chicago if you’ve never been- it’s so beautiful!

Thank you to Giorgio Armani and Influenster for providing me with the lip products. All opinions are 100% my own.
