I’ve been so excited to be back in Manhattan this week after a month of being away (since I changed work projects and my new client’s not in NYC). There’s just something special about this city that makes me want to stay outside for an extra minute or to go to one more new place I’ve never been. One thing I’ve always loved is the way that people dress here and look effortlessly stylish. An outfit that’s really easy in my opinion to feel confident in is a maxi dress. For this particular look, I paired mine over a royal blue scoop tee and added some dainty accessories! P.S. I also flew with this maxi dress on one time and it was so incredibly comfortable- definitely recommend doing it if you have plans in the city as soon as you fly in like I often do! Continue reading
It is so crazy to me that it’s my last week in New York. I’ve been working here for the last 10 months which basically means I’ve been flying from Atlanta or another city into NYC every week for almost a year. Although I’m feeling a lot of mixed emotions, many of you know that New York City is my favorite city and there are so many things that I’m going to miss. I created a list of 10 things I’m going to miss the most and have included it at the end of this post!
Let me first get to my outfit details before I get into the whole story of why I was in NYC even though I was supposed to be in Atlanta lol (bottom of the post). My mom bought me this Cynthia Rowley trench coat about a year ago and I always get compliments on it when I wear it! It’s perfect for casual wear in the city or as a light jacket for work! This outfit was influenced by Burberry ads I had seen the week before- I love how simple but stylish this look is! Check out the links above to see where I got everything/ similar pieces.
I realized recently that I’ve been working in NYC for 8 months now. :O That is so insanely crazy to me and even though my days have gotten longer and longer, I’m still so happy to be in this city. I work in Union Square and this area is so perfect! Union Square has awesome places to eat or shop, I’ve spotted Jimmy Fallon here, and I love that it’s in so many movies! Some of my favorite spots include The Bean, Republic, Liquiteria, Union Square Greenmarket, and Irving Farm Coffee Roasters.
NYC’s weather has been fluctuating a ton with days in the 50’s one week and then a blizzard the next (P.S. I survived my first blizzard! It was super short and I ended up going to work during it. Lol) I’m always wearing layers so that I don’t get uncomfortable at work or walking around the city and I typically have two things with me: 1) my work tote which is big enough for my laptop! and 2) my Frends headphones!
Wow where to begin this post. 1) Sorry for being so MIA this whole last month and a half. It feels like I haven’t had a second to myself to just get online and blog. Now that I’m working in NYC I have super long hours and am just also trying to experience the city with new friends and coworkers. 2) I mentioned new exciting blog projects that I’m really excited about but that are taking more time than I expected. They are coming soon I promise!
These last few months have been a dream. I’m living the life I’ve always wanted- being in NYC and then traveling on the weekend to whatever city I pretty much want. It’s amazing to take a step back and just feel grateful for it all- I’m truly so lucky. I’ve realized more and more that school is a time to work your butt off so that you can enjoy life later (aka if you’re in school, work hard now so you can play later). New York City is so incredibly beautiful and the perfect place for blog pics. I took these with my friend Natasha (see her guest post here) back in November but am just now getting around to posting them. Since it’s been so cold lately these pics are still applicable. Lol I encountered my first snow storm last week and it was somewhat intimidating with the wind and slush but nonetheless was a fun experience of trying to walk and not die. Cant wait to go back to NYC this week!
Last month I did a stretch of not going home for 3 weeks- I flew out Monday for work, stayed in NYC that weekend, and then flew to Chicago the following weekend to meet up with my parents there! Everyday I am thankful for being able to live a lifestyle like this- it is truly amazing. I find that a lot of the people I’m surrounded by have been traveling for so long that they’ve lost some of the appreciation for it so no matter how overly excited I am to be somewhere, I don’t tone down the enthusiasm because that’s something I don’t want to lose. When my parents asked me if I wanted to join them in Chicago I pretty quickly said yes because when I think of Chicago I think of a massive skyline, walks by the beautiful river, and delicious food (gimme all the deep dish please). We had a great trip and we took a ton of photos.
Chicago was surprisingly humid when we went (middle of October) but was still really windy- I made the mistake of wearing a dress but brought leggings to put on part way through the day thank god. I went for a very comfy outfit but one that was still street chic. My favorite piece for layering clothing is a cropped sweater! It goes over dresses perfectly without making your outfit look chunky (I also have this sweater in black and wear both constantly). Also if you can’t tell by basically all of my photos on Instagram (linked here), I’ve been obsessed with chokers. I love that these are making a comeback from the 90’s- it makes all of outfits feel cooler and edgier! Continue reading
